Club Status
Our race club is competitive both in ability and in training of athletes and are at par or better with other clubs in the region when it comes to athletic results. We are local to this region and for a small club, we score many podium finishes regularly basis – this includes competitions against regional Quebec clubs (Mt. Ste. Marie, Vorlage, Cascades, Edelweiss)
Provincial & National Championships
All K1 and K2 athletes, based on local race results, have an opportunity to participate at the Ontario Provincial level
Athletes at these levels, qualify against the other Ontario clubs – Quebec clubs are not included in qualifying Ontario results
Depending on Provincial results, may qualify for Canadian National Championships
FIS (Federation Internationale de Ski)
At the age of 15 (Junior), athletes may choose to continue on with local club racing OR move into FIS
FIS is a higher competitive group of athletes, generally are in the 200 point category or lower but any athlete can compete at this level depending on the level of racing the athlete aspires to
FIS athletes travel extensively all over Ontario and Quebec as local FIS races are not plentiful locally
Elite Racing
At the age of 13 (K2), athletes may choose to continue on with local club racing OR move into elite racing
In Ontario, there are two choices presently;
NCO (National Capital Outaouais Ski Team) - http://www.ncoski.com
Local elite ski team made up of athletes from Ontario and Quebec clubs from this region
NCO is not a club - athletes become a member while continuing their allegiance with their home club
If accepted, athletes train/race full time with the NCO team including training in other, more extravagant locales (Europe, Chili, etc.)
NCO athletes also race regionally as well as travel to other destinations outside the region
Program costs and commitment for both athlete and parent are sizable
Ontario Development Team
A similar program to the NCO is offered in the Collingwood area managed by Alpine Ontario and is strictly made up of Ontario athletes
Athletes live, train and attend school in Collingwood
Program costs and commitment for both athlete and parent are sizable
Further information is available at; http://www.alpineontario.ca
Quebec also offers elite programs but athletes would be required to register with a Quebec club or Elite Ski team. Ontario needs elite athletes and Quebec programs should be considered as an alternative
